END OF THE ROAD
Western Michigan wraps up its regular season road schedule this weekend with a three-game series at Kent State. With two weekends remaining in the regular season, the Broncos are one game ahead of Eastern Michigan and two games up on Central Michigan for the sixth and final spot in the upcoming MAC Tournament.

POWER SCHEDULING
As has been the case the past several years, WMU loaded up its non-conference schedule, playing 13 games against Power Conference foes. The Broncos won four of those matchups with Power Conference opponents, including a 6-0 shutout at Michigan on March 18, followed by wins the next two weeks at Northwestern and at Notre Dame. Western Michigan then wrapped up its non-conference schedule on Wednesday with a walk-off win over Michigan State. The Brown and Gold have had the second-toughest non-conference schedule among MAC programs this year.

LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos won both of their midweeks to run their winning streak to a season high six in a row. After erasing an early 3-1 deficit, Western Michigan rallied in the middle innings to win at Valparaiso on Tuesday, 7-3. On Wednesday against Michigan State, WMU tallied a pair in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings, and eventually grabbed a 6-5 win on a walk-off single in the 12th inning by Dylan Nevar. Nevar had three hits in both midweek victories, and drove in a total of three runs to eclipse 200 career RBIs for the Brown and Gold.

SERIES HISTORY
Coming into this weekend, Kent State owns an 87-86 edge in the all-time series between the two programs. Last season, Western Michigan took two out of three in Kalamazoo for its first regular season series win over the Golden Flashes since 1998. The last time the Broncos went to Kent in 2023, KSU swept a three-game set during the regular season and then also handed WMU a loss in the opening game of the 2023 MAC Tournament.

FOCUS ON THE FLASHES
After winning two out of three last weekend at Ball State, Kent State comes into the weekend tied with BSU and Miami for first-place in the league standings at 18-6. The Golden Flashes boast one of the top offenses not only in the MAC, but in all of Division I, as they lead the conference and rank top-12 nationally in batting average (.319), scoring (9.7 runs/game), on-base percentage (.433) and slugging percentage (.543).

THE WIZ KID
Saturday starter Joey Wizceb is coming off of a magnificent performance last weekend against Central Michigan, shutting out the Chippewas on three hits in his first career 9.0-inning complete game. The lefty became the first WMU pitcher to toss a 9.0-inning complete game shutout since Keegan Akin blanked Ohio over 9.0 innings on May 13, 2016. Wizceb was rewarded for his performance with the MAC Pitcher of the Week, joining Reese Gaber, a two-time honoree, as the two Broncos to claim the weekly honor this season.

McKINSTRY MOWS DOWN THE MAC
Ty McKinstry has shined in conference play for the Broncos, going at least 5.0 innings while allowing three earned runs or fewer in seven of his eight MAC starts. Entering the weekend, the junior ranks second in opposing batting average (.189), fifth in ERA (2.87) and tied for fifth in innings pitched (47.0) in conference games.

NEVAR CONTINUES TO MAKE HISTORY
Dylan Nevar has broken a pair of WMU career records this season, breaking Matt Mieske's (1987-90) all-time RBI record on March 21 against Akron and Chris Lewis' (2007-10) all-time total bases record on April 26 at Northern Illinois. After hitting his seventh home run of the season last Saturday against CMU, Nevar is closing in on WMU's career home run record as well, which is held by former teammate Cade Sullivan (2021-24), who hit 38. Nevar enters this weekend with 36 career blasts.
