COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Western Michigan track and field team closed out its regular season by posting some strong results at the Jesse Owens Classic, hosted by Ohio State.
The throws group had a great weekend, beginning with the shot put.
Bri'Yanna Robinson finished second with a throw of 14.47 meters. Behind her was
Tess Van Dyk, who collected ninth with a throw of 12.66 meters. Just behind her was
Lane Hagens, who posted a mark of 12.29 meters.
In the discus, Robinson led the way again, notching a throw of 41.43 meters. Hagens checked in behind her with a throw of 39.40 meters, while Van Dyk finished with a mark of 36.58 meters. The final throwing event of the weekend was the hammer throw, which saw Robinson record a mark of 53.67 meters.
Sprints, hurdles and jumps wise,
Laurie-Ann Desormes finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.65.
Jade Celestine had a great showing in the 100-meter hurdles, registering a time of 14.69.
Outside of that,
Anichka Malachi and
Mimi Joseph performed well in the long jump. Malachi posted a leap of 5.48 meters, while Joseph finished with a mark of 4.99 meters. The 4x100 relay team of
Sandra Ferrari,
Angel Pratt, Desormes and
Soniya Jones finished with a time of 47.15.
In the distance events, WMU continued to post strong times.
Rebekah Asselin had a time of 2:16.48 in the 800. Following that,
Lily Overton posted a time of 4:31.54 in the 1500. In the 3K steeplechase,
Madison Zarembski (11:12.88) and
Lara Machado Pereira (11:29.82) were able to finish in the top 13.
Finally,
Lauren Sancrant and
Larissa McGrath competed in the 5K. Sancrant had a time of 18:03.30, while McGrath was right behind her with a time of 18:05.82.

The Broncos will compete in the MAC Championships in a couple of weeks. The league meet will take place in Athens, Ohio from May 15-17.
