KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan will have four student-athletes competing in Lexington, Ky. later this week as part of the NCAA East Preliminaries. Competition will be on May 28 and 30 at the UK Track and Field Complex.
Sandra Ferrari will kick things off for the Brown and Gold, competing in the long jump at 6 p.m. on May 28. She has a season-best mark of 6.27, which ranks 27th in the region and 63rd in the NCAA.
Mabinty Kebe will be up next in the 400-meter hurdles, as she hits the track at 8 p.m. on Thursday night. Kebe is ranked 21st in the region and 48th in the NCAA with a time of 57.66. She won her third straight MAC Championship in the event just a couple weeks ago. Should she be among the top-24 times, she will compete again on Saturday at 7:25 p.m.
Ava Kurczewski will battle in the 3K steeplechase on May 30, with the race kicking off at 5:40 p.m. She is No. 33 in the East Region and 52nd in the NCAA with a top time of 10:08.12. She won the MAC Championship in the event back on May 15.
Finally,
Laurine Elisa Marimon will look to punch her ticket in the triple jump. She has a top leap of 13.16 meters, which ranks 16th in the region and 35th in the NCAA. Like her teammates, she won the MAC Championship at Ball State a couple weeks ago.
For those advancing, the NCAA Championships will take place in Eugene, Ore. on June 11 and 13.
