WMU Baseball Hands Out 2025 Team Awards

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan baseball program has handed out its 2025 team awards, with Turner Doran named the Relief Pitcher of the Year, Ty McKinstry selected as the Pitcher of the Year and Dylan Nevar named Team MVP, as voted by their teammates.

Doran was named Relief Pitcher of the Year after appearing in 16 contests out of the WMU bullpen this spring. The right-hander posted a 4.21 ERA, the lowest on the team, over the course of 25.2 innings and tied for third on the Broncos with 30 strikeouts. In MAC play, he lowered his ERA to 3.44 and fanned 22 batters in 18.1 innings. Doran had a 3.0-inning save on April 26 to secure the series victory at NIU, and tossed 3.0 scoreless frames on May 3 against Central Michigan to pick up the win and complete the series sweep over the Chippewas.

McKinstry served as Western Michigan's Friday starter throughout the season and posted a 5.02 ERA and .245 opposing batting average in his 14 starts. He tossed a pair of complete games and led the Broncos in both innings pitched (71.2) and strikeouts (51), with his ERA, opposing batting average and innings pitched marks all ranking in the top-10 of the conference. Like Doran, McKinstry upped his game in MAC play, lowering his ERA to 3.58 and opposing batting average to .221 in his 55.1 innings over 10 outings against league opponents. The righty picked up three MAC victories, tossing 6.0-innings of one-hit, shutout ball against Akron, 7.0 scoreless frames against Bowling Green and working 6.0 strong innings to win the series opener against CMU.

Nevar capped his highly decorated WMU career with Team MVP honors following a senior campaign which saw him hit .301 and lead Western Michigan in doubles (13), home runs (9), RBIs (49) and slugging percentage (.539). He hit several landmarks during his final season with the Brown and Gold, including breaking the program's career RBI record on March 21 against Akron and the career total bases mark on April 26 at NIU. On Senior Day, he marked his final game as a Bronco with his 38th career home run, tying him with former teammate Cade Sullivan for the program's all-time record. In addition to those records, Nevar also concluded his career ranked in the top-10 all-time at Western Michigan in career hits, runs scored and doubles.
