KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan freshman goaltender
Hampton Slukynsky has been selected to the U.S. Men's National Team for the upcoming IIHF Men's World Championships, USA Hockey announced this afternoon.
The list includes the first 18 players, which will hit the ice in Stockholm, Sweden and Herning, Denmark from May 9-25. Slukynsky is the only college player on the initial roster. The United States finished fifth at the 2024 event.
Slukynsky has helped USA Hockey win big games before, as he's won two gold medals in his young career. The Warroad, Minn. native backstopped the U.S. to a U-18 Men's World Championship title in 2023 before winning gold again at the 2025 World Junior Championships.
Across various competitions with Team USA, Slukynsky has posted a 7-2-0 record to go along with a 1.90 goals against average and .933 save percentage. He's lost just once in regulation and he's made 156 total saves.
Outside of international competition, the Los Angeles Kings draft pick has continued to win. In 2023-24, he helped the Fargo Force win the Clark Cup in the USHL. He then came to Western Michigan and helped the Broncos claim the program's first ever national championship this season.
With WMU in 2024-25, Slukynsky posted a 19-5-1 record to go along with a 1.90 GAA and .922 save percentage. He led the National Collegiate Hockey Conference in GAA and finished tied for fourth in save percentage. He was .02 back of the leader.
Nationally, the young netminder had the third best winning percentage and had the sixth best GAA. He was a Second Team All-NCHC selection and a finalist for the league's Goaltender of the Year award.
