MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team had another strong day, posting some more top-10 marks in program history at the Chippewa Challenge.
Soniya Jones tied the fifth best time in program history in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.87. That was good enough to win the event as well.
Mimi Joseph was also in the event, collecting a time of 13.07.
Bri'Yanna Robinson was also special on the day, posting the eighth best discus mark in program history. Her throw of 47.00 meters was enough to win the event.
Lane Hagens (39.99 meters) and
Tess Van Dyk (39.36 meters) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Broncos also had several winners on the day, starting with
Jade Celestine in the 100-meter hurdles. She recorded a time of 14.75.
Angel Pratt then went on to win the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.08. Celestine finished fifth with a time of 1:04.39.
Continuing the winning trend, WMU's quartet of Pratt, Jones,
Laurie-Ann Desormes and
Mabinty Kebe was able to win the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:47.23. The winning didn't stop there, as
Sandra Ferrari won the long jump with a leap of 5.84 meters.
Anichka Malachi and Joseph were also strong in the event, earning marks of 5.14 meters and 5.09 meters, respectively.
The throws group didn't slow things down, with Robinson taking the top spot in the shot put. She finished with a throw of 15.40 meters. Right behind her was Van Dyk, who collected a mark of 13.50 meters. Hagens was able to finish with a throw of 13.33 meters. Robinson concluded her day with a third-place finish in the hammer throw. She had a mark of 52.15 meters.
In the last few events of the day, Ferrari finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.55.
Reagan Viau then collected a time of 2:30.55 in the 800-meter run. The 1,500-meter run was strong for WMU, getting
Madison Zarembski (4:45.93),
Lauren Sancrant (4:47.54),
Madison Clor (4:53.65) and
Shannon Gillahan (5:21.04) all in the top 25.
