WACO, Texas -- Lane Hagens tallied a top-10 mark in program history, headlining a great opening day for the Western Michigan track and field team. The Broncos were in action at the Clyde Hart Classic, hosted by Baylor.
Hagens recorded the sixth best shot put mark in program history on Saturday afternoon, earning a throw of 14.67 meters. She finished second in the event behind
Bri'Yanna Robinson, who recorded a mark of 14.80 meters. She is the school's current record holder in the event.
Tess Van Dyk was also strong in the event, registering a throw of 12.12 meters to finish fifth.Â
That trio was also great in the discus. Robinson finished second with a mark of 45.85 meters, while Hagens collected sixth place with a throw of 39.11 meters. Van Dyk was eighth with a throw of 37.12 meters. Robinson then capped off the throwing events with a 50.21 meter mark in the hammer throw. That was good for fourth place.Â
On the sprints side,
Mabinty Kebe was able to collect first place in the 400-meter hurdles. Her winning time was 1:00.86. Kebe and
Sandra Ferrari then produced good times in the 100-meter hurdles. Ferrari finished in 14.23 with Kebe right behind her at 14.24.Â
Rounding out the running events were
Angel Pratt and
Laurie-Ann Desormes. They competed in the 100-meter dash, producing times of 12.07 and 12.39, respectively.Â
Ferrari and
Anichka Malachi then took their turn at the long jump. Ferrari placed second with a leap of 5.95 meters, while Malachi was 12th with a mark of 5.42 meters. Malachi was also strong in the triple jump, finishing fifth with a jump of 11.86 meters.Â
UP NEXT
The Broncos will split up for three meets next weekend. The team will be at the Texas Relays, Bobcat Invitational and Raleigh Relays.Â
