KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team heads out on the road in Mid-American Conference play for the first time this season. The Broncos travel to UIC on Thursday for a 1 p.m. match and are then at Northern Illinois on Saturday at 2 p.m.
LAST WEEK
Western Michigan opened MAC play with a pair of home matches against Buffalo and Toledo. The Broncos dropped the match against the Bulls, 4-3, in a thriller that went down to a 12-10 tie-breaker set. It marked the first time that WMU has lost a MAC opener since 2015.
The Broncos rebounded on Sunday with a 4-3 win over the Rockets. While the match didn't go down to a tie-breaker set, it did go down to a three-set match won by
Ashton Adesoro.
ANOTHER ONE
Western Michigan won its fourth MAC Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week award last week, with Adesoro and
Jack Davison taking the honors for going 2-0 against the Bulls and the Rockets. It's Adesoro's second time earning the honors this season, winning once with freshman
Oscar Corwin as well.
SCOUTING THE FLAMES
UIC opened MAC play last Saturday, playing one match and defeating Northern Illinois on the road, 5-2. The Flames are off to an exceptional start on the season, with an overall record of 10-2. UIC has been particularly tough at home, going 6-1 with the lone loss coming to IU Indy back on Jan. 26.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
The Huskies are 7-7 overall on the season after dropping last weekend's match to UIC and rebounding with a win on Sunday against Chicago State, 7-0. The loss to the Flames was NIU's first at home this season, where they are now 6-1.
ON THE HORIZON
Western Michigan returns home for just one match next weekend, hosting Ball State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
