OLDSMAR, Fla. -- The Western Michigan golf team holds a two-stroke lead heading into Tuesday's final around of the Butler Don Benbow Spring Invitational at East Lake Woodlands Golf Club.
The Broncos, who won the tournament last season, combined to shoot an opening round of 310 (+22) on Monday. Farleigh Dickerson is in second place in the 15-team field with a 312 (+24) and the host Bulldogs sit in third with a 315 (+27).
Three WMU golfers are tied for seventh place after shooting rounds of 77 (+5). Freshmen
Saanvi Venkatesh and
Lauren Lupinek, along with junior Jenna Hays are in the eight-way tie. The trio are also just one shot out of third place.
Macy Beeson, competing as an independent, is tied for 17th along with junior
Megha Vallabhaneni after shooting 79's.
Bella Brooks rounded out WMU"s official top five with an 82.
The Broncos look to finish strong in Tuesday's final round, beginning at 12 p.m.
