RIO VERDE, Ariz. -- The Western Michigan golf team wrapped up hosting the 22nd Annual Rio Verde Invitational on Sunday.
Cal Baptist repeated as champions after finishing with a three-round total of 865, edging out Illinois State by just one stroke. Xavier, who was leading heading into the final day, finished five strokes back in third.Â
The Broncos finished with a score of 923, taking 20th.Â
CBU's Pusanisa Ekkantrong ran away with the individual medalist spot after shooting a tournament record 64 (-8) in the final round and finishing with a 207 (-9).
Junior
Megha Vallabhaneni was the Broncos' top finisher, tying for 28th with a 224 (+8). Vallabhaneni was very consistent over the weekend, shooting a 75 in the first two rounds and finishing on Sunday with a 74. For the tournament, Vallabhaneni had four birdies and an eagle in the three rounds. Freshmen
Lauren Lupinek and
Saanvi Venkatesh finished tied for 52nd with 229's. The two had identical tournaments, with each shooting 77's in the first two round and finishing with a 75.
Bella Brooks and
Jenna Hayes finished within three strokes of each other after Brooks shot a 236 and Hayes a 239.
Allyson Barth finished with a 241.
Kailey White (248), Madeline Bloom (249) and
Macy Beeson (249) rounded out WU's competitors.Â
The Broncos are back in action on March 10-11 down in Tampa, Fla., for the annual Butler Spring Break Invitational at East Lake Woodlands Country Club.Â
