RIO VERDE, Ariz. -- Western Michigan's
Bella Brooks and Ally Barth paced the Broncos in the opening round of the 22nd Annual Rio Verde Invitational on Friday.
They both shot 73's (+1) and are locked in an 11-way tie for 12th place. Brooks is competing on WMU's "A" team, while Barth is on the "B" team.
Western Michigan's "A" team combined to shoot a 304 and sits just outside the top 10, while the "B" team shot a 313. Reigning champions Cal Baptist are in first place after shooting a 283.
Junior
Megha Vallabhaneni shot a 75 (+3) and is currently tied in 36th place. Freshman
Lauren Lupinek sits two shots behind Vallabhaneni, while junior
Jenna Hayes is two shots behind Lupinek with a 79.
Macy Beeson rounded out WMU's "A" team with an 87.
Freshman
Saanvi Venkatesh was the "B" team's second finisher and is tied with classmate Lupinek after shooting a 77.
Madeline Blum shot an 81 and
Kailey White shot an 82 to round out the "B" team.
CBU's Pusanisa Ekkantrong is the overall individual leader, shooting a 68 (-4) in the opening round.
Round two gets under way on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
