DALLAS – Western Michigan senior right-hander
Turner Doran has been named to the initial Watch List for the 20th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year award. The Stopper of the Year award is given out to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball. Of the 76 pitchers named to the initial Watch List, Doran is one of five representatives from the Mid-American Conference, and the only player from around the state of Michigan to earn the nod.
In his first season with the Broncos last year, Doran made 23 appearances and posted a 3.44 ERA across 34.0 innings, the lowest ERA on the team for a pitcher who threw at least 30.0 innings. The right-hander picked up a pair of wins, three saves, struck out 42 and limited opponents to a .224 batting average.
Doran announced his arrival to WMU in a big way, fanning seven over 4.0 no-hit, scoreless innings against Michigan to pick up a win in his first appearance for the Brown and Gold. His performance earned him MAC Pitcher of the Week for the opening week of the 2024 season. The Mokena, Ill., native took his game to the next level in conference play, posting a 2.16 ERA and holding opponents to a .186 average in MAC games.
Western Michigan begins its 2025 season on Friday, Feb. 14, as it takes on Michigan State to open up a four games in three days weekend at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
