Women's Soccer Heads to Northern Illinois

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team heads to Northern Illinois on Thursday, looking to remain unbeaten in MAC play. The Broncos and Huskies will hit the field at 8 PM ET.

LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan continued its winning ways, downing Ball State 2-0 back on Oct. 5 in Muncie.

Ava Beckett and Olivia Brunink scored their first goals of the season in the triumph. Drew Martin and Kailah Newcomb had the assists.

Freshman Reagan Sulaver picked up her fifth career shutout in the game.

MARTIN STAYS CONSISTENT
Senior Drew Martin has been one of WMU's most valuable pieces throughout the 2025 season, entering Thursday's matchup with 14 points on four goals and six assists.

Her consistency has been a huge strength, as the Bloomfield Hills native has recorded a point in each of her last five matches. She has at least one point in eight of the team's 12 games this season.

During her current five-game point streak, Martin has produced nine points on two goals and five assists. Her best performance was a one goal, two assist outing in a win over UMass on Oct. 2.

Martin entered the season with nine career points over three years. A little over halfway through the season, she has career highs in every major statistical category.

ABBY CHASES HISTORY
Senior forward Abby Smothers has been a mainstay in the Western Michigan lineup since transferring in from Madonna prior to the 2023 season.

She's produced double-digit points every season in Kalamazoo, including a career high 33 points last season. With that, she is closing in on Bronco history.

Jen Blitchok currently holds the program record for career points with 71. Smothers sits at 63 with six games remaining in the regular season and a possible postseason run. Entering Thursday's match, Smothers sits at fifth in program history.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northern Illinois has struggled in 2025, entering Thursday's matchup with three wins this season. The Huskies are 1-2-2 over their last five matches.

The Broncos are 22-6-3 all-time against NIU, including an 8-3-2 record in DeKalb. WMU has won the last nine meetings in the series.

The Huskies have four players with two or more points. Tyra King leads the way with four points on two goals so far this season.

In net, NIU has three goalies that have started a game this season. Each of them has one win. Morgan Lucich has been the best of the bunch, boasting a .61 goals against average and .750 save percentage.
