KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team is set for a road match at Akron tomorrow night. The two teams will hit the field at 6:30 PM at FirstEnergy Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan picked up a 4-1 win over Kent State on Oct. 19 at the WMU Soccer Complex.
Avery Peters netted two goals, while
Drew Martin and
Justina L'Esperance each scored once. In net,
Reagan Sulaver made two saves to earn her 11th win of the season.
TERRIFIC TRIO
The Broncos are known for having one of the best offenses in the MAC, and the trio of
Drew Martin,
Avery Peters and
Abby Smothers plays a big role in that.
All three have double-digit point totals this season, with Martin leading the way at 18 on five goals and eight assists. Smothers has produced 15 points on six goals and three assists, while Peters has chipped in 13 points on five goals and three assists.
Their talent was on full display last game, as they all hit the score sheet. Peters scored twice, while Martin added a goal and two assists. Smothers assisted on WMU's first goal of the game.
LETTING IT FLY
WMU's offense isn't afraid of putting the ball near the net, and that's evident by the team's 191 shots this season.
The Brown and Gold have 10 or more shots in each of their last eight games and in 12 of their 15 matches this season.
The Broncos have reached 200 or more shots in each of the last four seasons, with this year's team on pace to reach that mark as well.
Drew Martin leads the team with 31 shots, while
Avery Peters (30) and
Abby Smothers (29) are just behind. That trio also leads the team in shots on goal.
SCOUTING THE ZIPS
Akron has one MAC win, which came over Central Michigan back on Oct. 9. The Zips are 1-4-0 over their last five matches.
WMU is 20-1-3 all-time against Akron, including eight straight wins in the series. UA hasn't beaten the Broncos since a 2-1 victory back in 2003. The last non-loss for the Zips in the series was a 0-0 tie in 2016.
Addison Hall and Jordanne Oberhaus lead the way, as each have nine points so far this season. Hall has posted four goals and one assist, while Oberhaus has tallied three goals and three assists.
In net, Sara Bower has seen the most work. She has a 2-6-1 record to go along with a 2.10 goals against average and .673 save percentage. Arian Vakos has started five games, boasting a 2-2-2 record, 0.93 GAA and .833 save percentage.
