Women's Soccer Ready for Home Match Against Kent State

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team is set to take on Kent State tomorrow afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex. The two teams will hit the field at 1 PM.

LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan got back on track, defeating Eastern Michigan by a final score of 1-0 on Thursday at the WMU Soccer Complex.

Mira Pierre-Webster tallied the game-winning goal with under 10 minutes to play in the match. Abigail Baldridge and June Mullen provided the assists.

HOME SWEET HOME
The Broncos have been unbeatable in Kalamazoo over the last couple of years, entering Sunday's match with a 17-0-1 home record over the last two seasons.

WMU's last regular season home loss came back on Sept. 3, 2023 against Wisconsin. The last time the Brown and Gold lost to a MAC foe at home during the regular season was Oct. 16, 2022 against Eastern Michigan.

Western Michigan is currently riding a 24-match regular season home unbeaten streak.

MIRA LEADS THE WAY
Senior Mira Pierre-Webster has been a strong leader throughout her career, but her final season in the Brown and Gold has been special.

The Canadian defender has not only helped WMU produce one of the best defenses in the MAC, but she's taken her offensive game to another level as well.

Defensively, WMU has six shutouts this season and is allowing less than a goal per game. On offense, Pierre-Webster has a goal and two assists.

Against EMU on Thursday, Pierre-Webster delivered the game-winning goal to keep the Broncos in first place in the MAC. All four of her points have come in wins over MAC opponents.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN FLASHES
Kent State is one of the top teams in the MAC, going into Sunday's match with a 7-4-5 overall record and 5-2-2 conference mark. KSU is 3-0-2 over its last five matches.

The Broncos trail the all-time series, 12-14-3, but they are 4-1-0 over the last five meetings. WMU won a pair of games against the Golden Flashes last season, including a 4-1 victory in the MAC Semifinals.

KSU has a dynamic duo in Samantha Miller and Kelsey Salopek. Those two both have double-digit point totals, combining for 22 points on eight goals and six assists.

In net, Leah Shaffer has started all 16 matches. She boasts a 1.38 goals against average and .732 save percentage. She has four shutouts and 60 total saves.
