KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Sophomore goaltender
Hampton Slukynsky was named the NCHC Goaltender of the Week, the league announced this afternoon.
The Warroad, Minn. native was outstanding in the Broncos' two-game series at UMass Lowell, helping the team pick up a pair of wins. Slukynsky finished the weekend with a 2-0-0 record to go along with a 0.50 goals against average and a .973 save percentage. He posted 36 saves and one shutout across the two games.
The Los Angeles Kings draft pick opened the series with a 17-save performance in a 2-1 win over the River Hawks. The lone goal allowed came on the power play. He followed that up with a 19-save shutout on Saturday night, moving the Brown and Gold to 3-1-0 on the season.
Slukynsky has started all four games in net so far this season, boasting a 2.02 GAA and .890 save percentage. The young netminder was a Preseason All-NCHC selection and has 22 wins in his career.
Slukynsky and the Broncos are back in action on Thursday and Friday with a home-and-home series against Michigan. WMU plays in Ann Arbor on Thursday and hosts the Wolverines at Lawson Arena on Friday. Both games are set for 7 PM.
