KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team remained among the top teams in the national polls, which were released this afternoon.
The Broncos checked in at No. 2 in both the USCHO and USA Hockey polls. WMU received six first-place votes in the USCHO rankings, while earning four in the USA Hockey poll.
Boston University was the top team in both sets of rankings, with Michigan State, Michigan and Denver earning the three, four and five spots, respectively, in the USCHO poll. The USA Hockey rankings had the same top five, but Michigan and Michigan State swapped places.
The NCHC was well represented, as the entire league was ranked or receiving votes. WMU, Denver and North Dakota were among the top-eight teams in the nation, while Arizona State slid in at No. 15. Colorado College made its debut in the polls, earning the No. 19 spot in the USA Hockey poll and the No. 20 ranking the USCHO poll. Minnesota Duluth, St. Cloud State, Miami and Omaha were all receiving votes.
WMU picked up a win over Ferris State in its last outing, scoring six goals on the Bulldogs. The Broncos had six different goal scorers in the contest.
The Brown and Gold will head east this weekend for a series against UMass Lowell. The River Hawks were receiving votes this week. The series opener is set for 7:15 PM at the Tsongas Center.
