Hockey Set to Face Road Test Against Colorado College

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan heads back on the road for a two-game series against Colorado College. The two teams will open the series on Friday, Jan. 31 at 9 PM on CBS Sports Network.

LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos collected their third straight sweep, earning a pair of wins over Miami last weekend. The Brown and Gold dominated Miami, 8-3, on Friday night before blanking the RedHawks, 2-0, the next day. Alex Bump had five points in the series, while Hampton Slukynsky posted his first career shutout in Saturday's victory.

GOING STREAKING
WMU is currently riding a six-game win streak, thanks in large part to the play of Alex Bump, Owen Michaels and Samuel Sjolund. All three players are on six-game point streaks, combining for an eye-popping 30 points in that stretch.

Bump has been on fire, collecting 13 points on six goals and seven assists. Along with his point streak, the Prior Lake, Minn. native has a goal in each of his last four games. On the season, Bump leads the team in points with 25 on 11 goals and 14 assists.

Sjolund has been outstanding at setting up his teammates during the winning streak. The Swedish blue liner, has nine points on one goal and eight assists. He was awarded the NCHC"s Defenseman of the Week honor on Monday afternoon after producing a four-point series versus Miami.

Michaels has had no issue finding the back of the net recently. The Northville, Mich. native has five goals and three assists over the last six games. He leads the team in goals with 12 this season and is second on the team with 19 points.

DOMINATING THE DOT
Winning faceoffs has been a strong point for Western Michigan this season, as the team enters the weekend with a 55.8 percent win rate. That mark is the second best in the nation.

Veteran forward Tim Washe has led the way, winning 65.9 percent of his draws. That percentage leads the NCHC by more than five percent. He has been the conference's leader in faceoff win percentage each of the last two seasons.

Washe has won 253 faceoffs so far this season, which includes a dominant series against Miami last weekend. In the two-game series, the Clarkston, Mich. native was able to go 26-of-31 on draws (83.9 percent).

Matteo Costantini and Owen Michaels have also been strong in the dot. Costantini has won 56.0 percent of his faceoffs, while Michaels is sitting at a 54.2 percent win rate. The duo has combined for 272 faceoff wins.

FANTASTIC FINNS
WMU's freshman class has played a pivotal role in its success this season, with a pair of Finns playing some of their best hockey of the season. Iiro Hakkarainen and Joona Väisänen have combined for 24 points this season.

Hakkarainen has been a balanced winger for the Brown and Gold this season, tallying five goals and seven assists. He had a big weekend against Miami, scoring a goal in both games. He netted the game-winning goal in Saturday's shutout victory.

Along with his offensive skill, the Espoo, Finland native has also provided value on defense. Through 22 games, Hakkarainen has blocked 15 shots, which is the third most among forwards on the team.

Väisänen has been strong on the blue line, producing one goal and 11 assists in 22 games this season. He had three points against Miami this past weekend, which included assists on both game-winning goals.

The Pittsburgh Penguins draft pick has the third most blocked shots on the team (21) and has a +12 rating. He has at least one point in five of his last seven games.

TANDEM TENDIES
The Broncos have split starts in net throughout the season, leading to great success from Cameron Rowe and Hampton Slukynsky. The duo has lost just four games this season and has WMU sitting at No. 3 in the nation.

Slukynsky has been sensational in nine starts this season, boasting a 5-3-1 record, 1.55 goals against average and .946 save percentage. He has allowed just 14 goals this season and picked up his first career shutout against Miami on Jan. 25.

The Warroad, Minn. native is second in the NCAA in GAA and third in save percentage. He leads the NCHC in both categories.

Rowe has been just as good, producing a 12-1-0 record, 1.92 GAA and .926 save percentage. He has allowed 25 goals and leads the NCAA in win percentage this season.

The veteran netminder is 11th in the NCAA in GAA and 14th in save percentage. Rowe is the NCAA's active career leader in wins, carrying 66 victories into the weekend.

MILESTONE MOMENTS
