KALAMAZOO, Mich. – For the second time this season, junior
Samuel Sjolund was selected as the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Defenseman of the Week, the league announced this afternoon.
Sjolund was tremendous in a weekend sweep of Miami, producing four points on one goal and three assists. He led all defenseman in the conference in points and the goal was his first of the season.
In Friday's blowout win, Sjolund collected a goal and two assists. The Swedish blue liner helped the Broncos score two power-play goals, while also tallying the team's seventh goal of the night. He was a +2 in the 8-3 victory.
On Saturday, he also played a key role in helping WMU shutout the RedHawks. Sjolund had the primary assist on the game-winning goal and helped the Western Michigan penalty kill go 2-for-2 without allowing a shot.
Thanks to his big weekend, Sjolund is up to 17 points on the season. He has one goal and 16 assists. He leads the team in assists and is the top defenseman in terms of points.
Sjolund and the Broncos look to continue their hot streak in a series at Colorado College this upcoming weekend. Friday's series opener is set for 9 PM EST on CBS Sports Network.
