KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team is back in action this weekend, hosting Grand Valley State for a double-header on Friday at 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at West Hills Athletic Club.
The pair of matches are part of a triple-header of WMU tennis, with the women's program hosting GVSU at 12:30 p.m. Admission is free.
LAST WEEK
WMU (3-2) hosted Marquette and Ferris State last Friday before heading on the road to No. 23 Michigan State on Sunday. The Broncos defeated both the Golden Eagles and the Bulldogs by scores of 6-1. WMU then fell 6-1 in East Lansing on Sunday.
ROAD WARRIORS
The Broncos will need to be road warriors over the next few weeks. Friday's pair of games marks the team's last home match until Friday, Feb. 21, a double-header against Butler and Purdue Northwest. Between then, Western Michigan will travel to Wisconsin to take on the Badgers and Drake, to Purdue and to Illinois State.
EARLY HONORS
In the first week possible to win the MAC Weekly Awards, WMU's doubles team of
Anton Arzhankin and
Alex Antonopoulos were named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week. The pair went on the weekend as WMU's No. 2 in doubles. In the 6-1 win over Marquette they defeated Hugh Perril and Remi St-Laurent. Later in the afternoon they made quick work of Ferris State's Alessandro Santangel and Felipe Iser, 6-2. In Sunday's match at No. 23 Michigan State they earned a win over Matthew Forbes and Tayrn Alazmeh, 6-2.
ON THE HORIZON
WMU heads to Wisconsin next weekend to take on the Badgers on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and then Drake on Saturday at 1 p.m.
