INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Western Michigan track and field team produced some strong results between the Gerry England Invitational and the Hoosier Horsepower Classic. That included a win in the 60-meter hurdles by
Jade Celestine at the Gerry England Invitational. She posted a winning time of 9.22.
The only other athlete competing at the event was
Kennedy Hagens, who finished fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 15.24 meters.
At the Hoosier Horsepower Classic,
Sandra Ferrari had a great day, competing in both the long jump and 60-meter hurdles. She finished third in the hurdles with a time of 8.60. She then went on to finish fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.83 meters.
Anichka Malachi and
Mimi Joseph also competed in the long jump, earning marks of 5.44 meters and 5.15 meters, respectively.
Sticking with the sprints,
Soniya Jones and
Angel Pratt were strong in the 200-meter dash. Jones posted a time of 24.82, while Pratt recorded a time of 25.07.
Mabinty Kebe was third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.36.
The distance group also had a strong outing, placing four in the top five of the 5K.
Brooke Soper crossed the finish line in second with a time of 17:55.00. Behind her was
Larissa McGrath, who posted a time of 18:02.89.
Lauren Sancrant was fourth with a time of 18:07.35, while
Grace Aurand placed fifth with a time of 18:30.75.
Lillian Zelasko was good in the 3K, finishing fifth. She had a time of 9:51.95. Behind her were
Lily Overton (10:06.27),
Lara Machado Pereira (10:31.12) and
Madison Clor (10:42.55). Rounding out the distance events were
Ava Kurczewski (800M) and
Madison Zarembski (Mile). Kurczewski registered a time of 2:28.38, while Zarembski collected a mile time of 5:24.78.
In the lone relay of the day, WMU's 4x400 group was able to post a third-place time of 3:56.73. The team was made up of Jones,
Laurie-Ann Desormes, Celestine and Malachi.
Throws wise, the Broncos had three athletes competing in the shot put.
Bri'Yanna Robinson paced the team with a throw of 14.94 meters. Behind her was
Tess Van Dyk, who posted a mark of 14.16 meters. Rounding out the group was
Lane Hagens, who produced a throw of 13.47 meters.
