KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team continues its road stretch with a game against Detroit Mercy on Sunday afternoon. The Broncos and Titans will begin play at 1 PM.
LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan continued its success against top tier opponents, earning a tie at Wisconsin last Sunday.
Jen Blitchok's second half tally helped the Broncos earn a 1-1 draw.
BLITCHOK KEEPS SCORING
Jen Blitchok returned to Western Michigan for her final year of eligibility and has not disappointed. During the first five games of the season, Blitchok has six goals.
Entering the weekend, Blitchok leads the MAC in goals, points and shots. She is averaging 2.4 points per game and 1.2 goals per game.
LETTING IT FLY
The Broncos have been one of the top offensive teams in the MAC this season, thanks in large part to its ability to find open space and get shots on goal.
So far this season, WMU leads the MAC with 76 total shots and averages 15.20 shots per game. That has led to eight goals (1.60 goals per game).
Leading the way for the Brown and Gold has been
Jen Blitchok, who has 27 shots, including 12 on net.
Abby Werthman has also been an offensive weapon, firing 15 shots with nine being on net.
SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit Mercy enters Sunday's game riding a two-game winning streak, beating Madonna and Chicago State in its last two games. They outscored those two opponents 7-0.
Western Michigan is 5-5-1 all time against Mercy, with the last meeting coming back in 2022. The Broncos are undefeated against the Titans over the last three games. However, the Brown and Gold have struggled in Detroit, holding a 1-3-1 record.
Leading the charge for UDM are Abby Lodato and Erica Toupin. Those two each have three goals. Lodato has an assist to lead the team with seven points.
The Titans have split the opportunities in net, with Marisa Silver starting four games and Chantelle Symes getting the start in three matches. Silver is 1-4-1 with a 2.00 goals against average and .690 save percentage, while Symes is 1-1-0 with a 1.20 goals against average and .667 save percentage.
