DETROIT, Mich. – Western Michigan picked up a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon against Detroit Mercy. The tie pushed WMU's record to 2-1-3 on the season.
Reagan Sulaver and
Kate Sheridan combined to earn the shutout, making three saves in the match.
FIRST HALF
Detroit came out aggressively, but WMU's defense was able to block two strong looks out front. From there,
Meredith Vance nearly put the Brown and Gold in front with a shot that missed just over the bar.
Sammi Glover and
Tessa Fagerson then tried their luck at the goal. UDM was able to clear the chances out of trouble. Then, in the 22nd minute, Fagerson drilled the post with a shot, which was followed by an
Irelyn Sheldon shot that slipped wide of the net.
With time winding down in the half, Vance had a shot saved out front. The two teams went to the break tied at 0-0.
SECOND HALF
The Broncos got an early corner, eventually getting a shot from Vance blocked out front. Moments later, WMU would earn another corner kick. This time, Sheldon had a shot blocked and
Sydnee Maxwell had a look miss just high.
In the 62nd minute,
Kaiya Stewart nearly pushed the visitors in front. But her shot slipped just wide of the post. WMU changed keepers in the 64th minute after Sulaver was shaken up. Sheridan immediately stopped a strong look from the Titans to keep the game tied at 0-0.
Then, in the 71st minute, WMU was given a red card. That forced the Brown and Gold to play with 10 players the rest of the way. Things got interesting down the stretch, as Sheridan made a strong save in the 86th minute. She followed that up with another stop in the 89th minute.
With time winding down, Vance had the last chance of the game for the Broncos. Her shot was scooped up by the UDM keeper to conclude a 0-0 draw.

WMU will be back in action next Sunday against Xavier for the last non-conference game of the regular season. The two teams will hit the field at 1 p.m.
