Volleyball Concludes Non-Conference Play at #15 Tennessee

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball team wraps up non-conference play this weekend with a pair of matches at #15 Tennessee.

NON-CONFERENCE FINALE
Western Michigan wraps up non-conference play this week with a two-match series at #15 Tennessee. WMU is 1-1 against ranked foes in 2024 after losing a neutral site contest to #13 Kansas and then winning the next day at #24 Marquette. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos are coming off of three losses over the weekend at the Erie Insurance Invitational, hosted by James Madison. In the weekend finale against the host Dukes, Madison Merz tallied a career-high 19 kills on a .457 hitting percentage to earn a spot on the weekend's All-Tournament Team. Logan Case was also named to the All-Tournament Team after handing out 11.18 assists/set. 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Andelyn Simkins was named MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, the second straight week she was honored. WMU's libero is second in the league and fifth in NCAA Division I with 5.58 digs/set. As a team, the Broncos are fifth nationally in digs/set with 18.36. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year has posted double-digit digs in 38 consecutive matches going back to last season.

SETTING THE STANDARD
Logan Case earned All-Tournament Team honors over the weekend and remained second in the nation at 11.67 assists/set. The NCAA's active leader in career assists with 5,482, Case has climbed up to fifth on the MAC's all-time career assists list.

KILLER KEONA
Keona Salesman continued her hot start to the season, totaling double-digit kills in all three matches over the weekend, including a season-high 21 against High Point. The fifth-year outside hitter has had double-digit kills in all nine matches and leads the conference with 4.03/set.

SCOUTING THE LADY VOLS
Tennessee had a five-match winning streak snapped on Monday night in a five-set defeat at Wofford. The 15th-ranked Lady Volunteers rate as one of the most efficient attacks in the country, boasting a .272 hitting percentage which is 25th in the nation. UT junior middle blocker Keondreya Granberry is second nationally in hitting percentage at .544. Western Michigan is 2-5 in the all-time series, including a win in Knoxville over then-19th ranked Tennessee in 1985.
