KANSAS CITY, MO. – The United Soccer Coaches announced the midfielders on its NCAA Division I Men's Players to Watch list for the 2024 intercollegiate season. Chosen by the Division I All-America Committees, Western Michigan University men's soccer junior midfielder
Carson Hodgson was one of 18 male midfielders named to the watch list.
"Entering the 2024 season, these previous honorees represent some of the best at their positions," said Ralph Polson, Senior College All-America Administrator. "As pre-season training opens, we are pleased to recognize these outstanding student-athletes from our member schools. I would like to thank Jennifer Rockwood, DI Women's All-America Chair, Ryan Hopkins, DI Men's All-America Chair, and their respective committees for their efforts in compiling these lists."
In 2023, Hodgson helped the Brown and Gold reach the Sweet Sixteen for the second consecutive season (third overall in program history) after starting in all 23 contests. He displayed growth in his offensive arsenal in the final third by compiling career highs of eight goals and 10 assists. Hodgson would record a personal best two multi-assist games during the 2023 campaign in WMU's 5-4 win over Dayton (September 10) and 2-2 tie at Villanova (September 19). The midfielder from Macomb, Michigan, eventually found himself in elite company, as his assists total was tied for the third most in WMU single-season history and ranked tied for eighth in the entire nation.
Hodgson was eventually drafted by CF Montreal in the third round (pick 86) of the 2024 MLS SuperDraft, however, he elected to return to WMU for the 2024 season.
The lists are compiled and released by the Division I All-America Committees to promote college soccer leading up to the official start date for the regular season later this month. The lists include United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and first or second-team All-Region players from 2023, who are scheduled to return for the 2024 season.
