Jen Blitchok Named MAC Offensive Player of the Week

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – For the second consecutive week, the Western Michigan women's soccer team had a player selected as the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week. Graduate student Jen Blitchok earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Blitchok had an outstanding week against a pair of top-notch opponents. On Aug. 22, the Grandville, Mich. native netted the team's lone goal of the game, which helped the Broncos earn a tie against No. 24 Iowa. Trailing 1-0 in the first half, Blitchok scored from near midfield to knot the game at 1-1.

To follow that up, Blitchok found the back of the net twice against Marquette on Aug. 25. The Broncos won the game, 3-0. After seeing the score tied at the half, the veteran forward took matters into her own hands, heading a ball into the back of the net to give WMU a 1-0 lead in the second half. She then went on to score the game's third goal, helping the Broncos close out a three-goal win to remain undefeated on the season.

Her three-goal week pushed her into the nation's goal lead with five. She is averaging 1.67 goals per game.

Blitchok and the Broncos will hit the road for the first time this season when they take on Creighton this Thursday. The game is set for 5 PM ET.
