KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team is set to take on Marquette tomorrow afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex. The Broncos and Golden Eagles will begin play at 1 PM.
LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan earned a draw against No. 24 Iowa on Thursday, Aug. 22 at the WMU Soccer Complex.
Jen Blithcok provided the lone goal for the Broncos, netting her third tally of the season in the first half of the game.
BLITCHOCK'S BLISTERING START
After earning First Team All-MAC honors last season,
Jen Blitchok has picked up right where she left off to begin the 2024 campaign. In the team's opening two games, she has tallied three goals, including two in an opening day win against Northern Kentucky.
Against Iowa earlier this week, Blitchok scored from near midfield to help the Broncos earn a tie against the nationally ranked Hawkeyes. Blitchok ended last season with nine tallies, which ranks tied for third in school history.
WILBERDING'S WINNING WEEK
After posting a six-save shutout in her first career start in the Brown and Gold last week against Northern Kentucky, junior goalkeeper
Ava Wilberding was selected as the MAC's Defensive Player of the Week.
On the season, Wilberding leads the conference in saves and shutouts and is among the MAC leaders in goals against average and save percentage.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Marquette has gotten off to a slow start in 2024, carrying a 0-2-1 record into Sunday's match. They have a tie against Kansas City and losses to Colorado and Northwestern so far this season.
As a team, the Golden Eagles have found the back of the net just once. The team's lone goal came from Kate Gibson against Kansas City. Alexa Maletis picked up the assist on the play.
In net, Elise Krone has started all three games, making 17 saves. She has a 2.00 goals against average and .739 save percentage.
The Golden Eagles defeated the Broncos 2-1 in Milwaukee last season and hold a 4-1 edge in the all-time series. WMU's lone win against Marquette came back in 2013 in the NCAA College Cup.
