KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan football graduate linebacker Boone Bonnema has been named to the 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.
Bonnema has been no stranger to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, earning a spot on it in each of the last two seasons. The Zeeland, Mich., native was also named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Bonnema, who graduated with a degree in Finance from WMU's Haworth College of Business and is now pursuing a MBA, has been involved in the Kalamazoo Community and beyond in his community service.
He is the Vice President of the WMU Student-Athlete Advisory Council, the President of the WMU chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of the WMU Football Leadership Council. Bonnema recently won the Rare Disease Champion Award for going above and beyond in raising awareness for the Rare Disease Community, raising over $11,000 in 2023.
Bonnema, along with fellow WMU Football teammates, volunteers at the YMCA, Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes, and has made countless visits to Bronson Children's Hospital. With Bonnema's help, the Broncos spent over 390 hours out doing community service in the first year of head coach Lance Taylor's tenure.
Bonnema has also been a leader in the classroom, earning a spot on the Academic All-MAC team in each of the last three seasons. He was also a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection for the 2023 season.
