NEWTON, Kan. – Western Michigan golf coach
Kim Moore opens the third annual U.S. Adaptive Open, a championship that showcases the world's best golfers with disabilities, at Sand Creek Station golf course on Monday.
Moore qualified as one of 96 players, which represent 32 states and 11 countries. She won the first-ever U.S. Adaptive Open back in 2022, played at the historic No. 6 Golf Course at Pinehurst, and finished as the runner-up last summer. Moore was born without a right foot and a slight case of spina bifida.
This year's tournament will administer a cut for the first time. The top 20 overall men and ties, the top 10 overall women and ties, top three men and top two women and ties from each impairment category, and any player within five strokes of the leader in their impairment category will advance to the final round.
Moore comes off of coaching the Broncos to one of their most productive seasons in program history. The team had its third lowest round average at 305.7 and won its first tournament since 2019 after taking the top spot at the Butler Spring Break Invitational. WMU also tied its 54-hole tournament scoring record with an 883 at the Shirley Spork Invitational, and had the second and third lowest team rounds in program history.
