KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Belfast Giants have signed
Joe Cassetti to a professional contract for the 2024-25 season.
Cassetti played just one season in Kalamazoo, but he made his presence felt in 38 games with the Broncos. He set career highs in games played, assists and points during his stint with the Brown and Gold.
During his final year of college hockey, Cassetti was able to produce 17 points on eight goals and nine assists. He had two multi-goal games, including a pair of goals against No. 4 Denver. He also scored two goals against his former team (Miami), helping the Broncos sweep the Red Hawks to close the regular season.
He finishes his college career having played in 122 games, tallying 50 points on 26 goals and 24 assists. Additionally, he had nine power-play goals, three game-winning goals and 54 blocked shots.
Team wise, Cassetti helped the Broncos to a third straight NCAA Tournament, which had never been done in program history prior to this season. Additionally, Western Michigan has surpassed 20 victories each of the last three years.
"This past year at Western was awesome on and off the ice," Cassetti said. "We had an unbelievable group of guys and the best coaching staff in college hockey. Fersch and Herts know how to get the best out of all their players, and I'm super thankful I was able to play under them. Their consistency and attitudes at the rink everyday helped me mature as a player and person, and I wish I could've played for them for four more years."
