KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The 2024 College Sports Communicators At Large Academic All-District Team was announced this afternoon, with four Broncos headlining the list of honorees. 

Luke Grainger, Chad Hillebrand, Samuel Sjolund and Tim Washe were selected for their exceptional work on and off the ice. To qualify for the award, student-athletes must meet two requirements: at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA; play in 90 percent of the team's games or start 66 percent of the team's games. 

Grainger finished the season with a team-leading 48 points on 14 goals and 34 assists. He was a Second Team all-NCHC honoree and was also named the league's Senior Scholar Athlete Award winner. He had a 3.73 GPA in Finance. After the season, he signed a pro contract in the San Jose Sharks organization. 

Hillebrand was a great two-way player for the Broncos, finishing the 2023-24 campaign with 26 points on seven goals and 19 assists. He added 10 blocked shots and two shorthanded goals. He had a 3.50 GPA in Sport Management. Following the season, he signed a pro contract in the Colorado Avalanche organization. 

Sjolund's second year with the program was outstanding, as he produced 18 points on three goals and 15 assists. The sophomore blue liner had 21 blocked shots and played in all 38 games. He will return for his junior season in Kalamazoo. 

Washe was also great for the Broncos, finishing his senior season with 12 points on two goals and 10 assists. He was also exceptional in the faceoff dot, winning 60 percent of his draws. That was the top mark in the NCHC. He had a 3.58 GPA in Economics. 

Grainger has advanced to the Academic All-American ballot, which is voted on by members of the College Sports Communicators. The All-American teams will be announced on July 17.
