WMU Holds Steady at No. 5 in USA Hockey Poll

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team stayed at No. 5 in the USA Hockey poll and was ranked sixth in the USCHO poll which was released on Monday. The rankings continue WMU's run of having been ranked inside of the nation's top-10 since November of 2024.

Michigan retained the top spot in the rankings and was joined in the top-5 by Wisconsin, Denver, Michigan State and the Broncos. Five NCHC teams were ranked in the top-10 this week, with WMU joined by DU, Minnesota Duluth (#7), North Dakota (#8), and Colorado College (#9). Miami, Arizona State and St. Cloud State all received votes.

The Broncos are coming off of their first loss of the 2026-27 campaign on Friday night, falling on a last-second goal at top-ranked Michigan. WMU also dropped an exhibition contest to Wisconsin on Saturday evening.

Western Michigan resumes non-conference play this weekend with a two-game series against Long Island at Lawson Arena. Puck drop for Thursday's series opener against the Sharks is slated for 7 pm.

The 2026-27 campaign marks the Final Season at historic Lawson Arena for Western Michigan hockey. Named after the founding father of the program, Harry W. Lawson, the arena has been home to Bronco hockey since the 1974-75 season. All throughout the 2026-27 season, WMU hockey will be celebrating its five-plus decades at Lawson Arena with special events, promotions and 'Fan Friday' giveaways.
