KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan freshman forward
Adam Benák was named the NCHC Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Benák tied for the team lead in points for the second week in a row, notching two goals and an assist in Western Michigan's sweep of Notre Dame. The true freshman lit the lamp in both games against the Fighting Irish, scoring on the power play on Friday and then netting a goal and adding an assist in Saturday's contest. He was also strong in the dot, going 13-for-24 (54.2 percent) on faceoffs.
Through the weekend's action, Benák is tied for the team lead with seven points in four games for the Broncos, and is also tied for the national lead in points among freshmen.
Western Michigan continues its stretch of four straight games against Big Ten foes this week, starting on Friday with a trip to Ann Arbor to face #1 Michigan. The Brown and Gold return to Lawson Arena on Saturday evening for a 6 pm exhibition tilt against #6 Wisconsin.
