Kayla Schiera Earns All-American Honors

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- All-America honors for the 2024 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season were announced on Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), with Kayla Schiera earning Second Team honors.

She is the first Bronco to earn All-American status since 2018 and the first to garner Second Team recognition since 2012. The Illinois native placed 15th in the nation in the 3K Steeplechase with a time of 10:03.31. She is now a two-time honoree, as she was an Honorable Mention All-American at Southern Illinois in 2022 before transferring to WMU.

Schiera was dominant over the home stretch of her college career, setting the school record in the 3K steeplechase multiple times and winning the MAC Championship, while earning a bid to the NCAA Championships for the second time in her career.

She ends her WMU career with two school records, six top-10 times in program history, two All-MAC honors and Second Team All-American status. She will now continue the process of qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 3K steeplechase.
