DEKALB, Ill. -- The Western Michigan track and field team had another great day at the MAC Outdoor Championships, including
Kayla Schiera winning the 3K steeplechase. She is the first Bronco to win the event in program history. As a team, the Broncos sit in third place with 33 points after two days.Â
Schiera posted the winning time of 10:00.06, which breaks her own school record. The second-place finisher was more than 10 seconds behind. Along with Schiera,
Annalise James was able to capture fifth in the event with a time of 10:27.00. That is good for second in school history.
Madison Zarembski finished in 16th with a time of 11:20.44.Â
Sandra Ferrari was also great in her two events, earning second in the long jump and qualifying for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles. In the long jump, Ferrari was able to post a mark of 6.01 meters, which earned the Broncos eight points. Then, in the hurdles, she posted the best time in the field to qualify for tomorrow's final. She crossed the finish line in a time of 13.60, which is the second best time in program history.Â
Alongside Ferrari,
Mabinty Kebe was also able to qualify for tomorrow's final in the 100-meter hurdles. She finished the race in a time of 13.96, which is the 10th best time in program history and the sixth best time in the event.Â
On the throws side, the Broncos were able to gain 11 points in the shot put.
Bri'Yanna Robinson was the top Bronco in the event, finishing fourth with a mark of 14.21 meters. Right behind her was
Tess Van Dyk in fifth place, who had a PR throw of 14.08 meters.
Lane Hagens entered the event outside the top-10, but she was able to rise to seventh in the competition. She posted a PR mark of 14.00 meters to earn the team two more points.
In the 100-meter dash,
Soniya Jones and
Laurie-Ann Desormes just missed out on making tomorrow's final. Both of them had a time of 12.14.Â
