ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Kayla Schiera posted a school-record time in the 1,500-meter run to headline a strong day for Western Michigan at the Grand Valley State Extra Weekend.
Schiera's time of 4:22.10 is more than a second faster than the next best time in school history. She now holds the school record in the 1,500-meter run and 3K steeplechase. In her last three appearances, Schiera has recorded two school records and one other top-10 time in program history.
Annalise James was also strong in her lone event of the day. She registered the second best 3K steeplechase time in program history, crossing the finish line in a time of 10:34.16. Her time is more than five seconds faster than the next best time in school history. In the same race,
Madison Zarembski was also able to crack the top 10, earning the seventh best time in program history. She posted a time of 11:02.75.
Delaney Knoll missed the top 10 by less than half a second, notching a time of 11:20.23.
Danielle Rinn and
Lillian Zelasko also had top-10 times, notching the fifth and seventh best 5K times in program history. Rinn finished the race in a time of 16:42.85, while Zelasko collected a time of 16:49.08.
Larissa McGrath was also strong in the event, as she had a PR of more than 20 seconds. She finished the race with a time of 17:22.84.
Outside of those five top-10 times, the Broncos had more great performances across the meet. In the 800-meter run,
Rebekah Asselin was able to post a PR time of 2:18.55, while
LaJeanee' Porter recorded a time of 2:23.43. Following that, Asselin had a time of 4:54.31 in the 1,500-meter run.
Brooke Soper concluded the race with a PR time of 4:56.10.
UP NEXT
Western Michigan will be in action tomorrow and Saturday at the Clark Wood Open, which is hosted by Louisville. That is the team's final regular season meet of the year.
