CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- The Western Michigan track and field team had a strong day at the Miami (FL) Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, headlined by
Sandra Ferrari and
Soniya Jones posting top-10 times in program history.
Ferrari dominated the long jump event by earning a mark of 6.08 meters. That was good for the third best outdoor mark in program history.
Mimi Joseph was also strong in the event, as she claimed seventh place with a jump of 5.63 meters. Ferrari also raced in the 100-meter hurdles, recording a time of 14.48.Â
Jones was also able to enter the record book, earning the ninth best time in program history in the 100-meter dash. She registered a time of 11.92 in the event.
Laurie-Ann Desormes wasn't far behind, crossing the finish line in 12.27.Â
Jones and Desormes also competed in the 200-meter dash, earning times of 25.13 and 25.66, respectively. To finish the meet for WMU,
Mabinty Kebe was great in the 400-meter hurdles. She was able to pick up a time of 1:01.07 to finish fifth in the event.Â

Western Michigan will be busy next week, as it competes in a trio of meets. The Broncos will head to the Texas Relays, Raleigh Relays and Bobcat Invitational beginning on Wednesday, March 27.Â
