OXFORD, Ohio -- The Western Michigan track and field team opened the outdoor season with strong results at the Miami (OH) Blizzard Buster this afternoon.
Bri'Yanna Robinson opened the meet with a throw of 49.93 meters in the hammer throw to finish in second place.
Mariah Sackett and
Kennedy Hagens were able to post marks of 40.51 meters and 40.40 meters, respectively.
Following that,
Tess Van Dyk won the shot put with a throw of 13.57 meters.
Lane Hagens was sixth with a mark of 12.02 meters. Van Dyk was also strong in the discus, earning fourth place with a throw of 41.54 meters.
Lane Hagens had a mark of 36.70 meters, while Sackett had a throw 26.64 meters.
To finish the field events,
Anichka Malachi was the winner in the triple jump with a leap of 11.40 meters. In the long jump, Malachi was able to post a 5.38 meter jump to finish third.
To begin the running events,
Lillian Zelasko (4:47.47),
Rebekah Asselin (4:50.64) and Madison Zarebmski (4:52.29) all had good showings in the 1500-meter run. Following that,
Brooke Soper finished fifth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:18.25.
Larissa McGrath had a time of 10:20.59 in the same event to finish seventh.
The Broncos dominated the 800-meter run, finishing second, third and fourth. Asselin finished second with a time of 2:21.81,
Maggie Raab collected third with a time of 2:23.34 and
LaJeanee' Porter finished fourth with a time of 2:24.65.
To conclude the meet,
Claira Gilchrist registered a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. She recorded a time of 1:07.19.
