OLDSMAR, Fla. – The Western Michigan golf team earned its first tournament win since 2019 after claiming the top spot at the Butler Don Benbow Spring Invitational at Ardea Country Club on Tuesday.
The Broncos shot a final round of 306 for a 36-hole total of 608 (+32), finishing nine strokes ahead of Quinnipiac. Western Michigan finished with a tournament-best 19 birdies and 97 pars. WMU also had the top par 5 average at 5.05.
Sophomore
Megha Vallabhaneni was WMU's top finisher, tying for third place after a 151 (+7). After opening with a 74, she closed out the tournament with a 77. Vallabhaneni finished the tournament with 21 pars and four birdies.
Graduate student
Alissa Fish was just a stroke behind Vallabhaneni, shooting a pair of 76's for a 152 (+8) and tying for fifth. Sophomore
Jenna Hayes tied for seventh with a 153 (+9) after a second round of 79. Graduate student
Natalie Samdall finished tied for 20, putting four of WMU's five in the top 20. Samdal took 10 stokes off of her opening round and closed out with a 74 for a 158 (+14).
Ally Barth finished with a 162 (+18).
Western Michigan will look to build on its victory next Monday and Tuesday at the Nevel Meade Collegiate, hosted by Cleveland State in Prospect, Ky.
