KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Mid-American Conference announced its specialty awards for the indoor track and field season, with Western Michigan's
Sandra Ferrari,
Mabinty Kebe and
Kayla Schiera earning All-MAC honors. This is the first time since 2019 that the Broncos have had three or more All-MAC honorees in one season.
Ferrari was the Broncos' lone representative on the All-MAC First Team after she won the 60-meter hurdles at the MAC Championships. Her time of 8.44 was more than a tenth of a second faster than second place. She earned 10 points for the Broncos in the event. Along with that, she claimed second place in the long jump with a mark of 6.19 meters. That was a school record and earned the team eight points.
Along with her All-MAC honors, Ferrari was named the MAC Freshman Field Performer of the Year after the meet last week. That was WMU's first Freshman of the Year honor since 2017.
Along with Ferrari, Kebe and Schiera were able to earn Second Team All-MAC honors. Kebe claimed second place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.56, while Schiera was able to nab second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.77.
Ferrari, Kebe, Schiera and the Broncos will begin the outdoor season on March 15 when the team competes in a pair of meets. WMU will take part in the Miami Blizzard Buster and Hurricane Invitational.
