KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan football program and head coach
Lance Taylor have announced the hiring of Scott Power to the position of Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers coach.
Power brings years of success as a defensive coordinator at several different levels of college football. Most recently, he spent two seasons at Louisiana Tech, helping the Bulldogs defense rank in the top 25 in turnovers gained in 2022, coached one All-American and seven Conference USA All-Conference selections. He also helped La Tech recruit the top-ranked incoming class in CUSA, which also ranked fifth in the Group of 5.
"I am excited to announce Scott Power as our new Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach," said Taylor. "Scott is a dynamic leader, recruiter, and proven defensive play caller. He brings over 13 years of coordinating experience and a proven track record of helping build top ranked defenses and elite recruiting classes at multiple levels. I am confident Scott will have a huge impact on our young men while continuing to raise our Bronco standard on and off the field. I am thrilled to have Coach Power and his family joining our Bronco Family."

Prior to his time at La Tech, he spent three seasons as the defensive coordinator at Stephen F. Austin. Under his command, the Lumberjacks routinely posted top defenses in the FCS, including leading the Western Athletic Conference in scoring defense, total defense, takeaways, sacks and tackles for loss in 2021. Power also had stops as defensive coordinator at Texas A&M Commerce, Central Washington and Marian.
Power holds a Business Management and Economics degree from Indiana University.
