KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) announced its weekly awards this afternoon, with Western Michigan's
Alex Bump,
Sam Colangelo and
Cameron Rowe earning individual honors.
Colangelo earned the league's Forward of the Week award after an excellent series against No. 19 Omaha. In total, he had four points on two goals and two assists. He tied for the NCHC lead in points for the week.
In Friday's game, Colangelo netted two goals en route to a 6-1 victory. He then followed that up by tallying assists on both WMU goals the next night. On the season, Colangelo has produced 35 points on 19 goals and 16 assists. All three of those marks are top-15 in the conference.
Bump was able to grab his first Rookie of the Week Award, thanks to a four-point weekend against the Mavericks. He had two goals and two assists in the two-game set.
The freshman began the weekend with a three-point night, including the primary assist on the game-winning goal in a 6-1 victory over Omaha. He also tallied a pair of goals to solidify the victory. He then produced a primary assist in the opening period of Saturday's game to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead.
Bump leads all WMU rookies with 24 points on 9 goals and 15 assists this season. Among rookies, he is top-five in the conference in all of those categories.
Rowe was a rock in net all weekend against the Mavericks, earning a 1-1-0 record, 1.97 goals against average, .918 save percentage and 45 saves. That led to him being named the Goaltender of the Week.
To open the weekend series, Rowe dazzled by making 23 saves between the pipes. He followed that up with a 22-save performance the next night. On the season, Rowe has played every minute for the Broncos, compiling a 2.28 goals against average, .912 save percentage and 17-10-1 record. His GAA and save percentage are both top-two in the league.
Western Michigan has an off week coming up but will be back in action against St. Cloud State on Feb. 23-24. The Broncos have six regular season games remaining on the schedule.
