Welsh and Hodgson Named United Soccer Coaches All-Americans

UNITED STATES --  The United Soccer Coaches announced its All-Americans for the 2024 season. On Friday, December 13, senior goalkeeper Colin Welsh (Second Team) and junior midfielder Carson Hodgson (Third Team) were named All-Americans for their performances this past season.

Welsh and Hodgson are the sixth and seventh Broncos to earn United Soccer Coaches All-American honors and only the third duo to receive All-American status in program history. The duo's selections mark the first time in program history that the WMU men's soccer team featured multiple United Soccer Coaches All-Americans in consecutive years.

In the 2017 season, midfielder Brandon Bye (First Team) and goalkeeper Drew Shepherd (Second Team) became the first Bronco teammates to earn United Soccer Coaches All-American honors. In the 2022 season, defender Daniel Nimick earned a Second Team selection to become the third All-American in program history. Last year, Broncos Charlie Sharp (First Team) and Jaylen Shannon (Second Team) became the second Bronco duo to claim All-American honors.

Colin Welsh, Goalkeeper, Second Team

In 2024, Welsh started in all 20 of his appearances for WMU and recorded 11 wins (tied for the third most in single-season program history) behind four shutouts. In net, the keeper tallied a goals-against average of 0.99 behind 78 saves. During the 2024 campaign, Welsh's save percentage of 0.796 led all keepers that tallied at least 1800 minutes in goal. This year, the senior showcased his defensive dominance in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament first round versus Evansville University on November 10. In the match, Welsh recorded a season-high eight saves.

Carson Hodgson, Midfielder, Third Team

This season, Hodgson started in all 21 matches for WMU and tallied six goals behind a career-high four game-winners. In the passing lane, Hodgson registered eight assists on the season behind two, three-assist outings. On October 22, Hodgson tallied a personal best six points after recording his first career hat trick in WMU's 4-1 road win over Detroit Mercy.
