ROME, Ga. – Western Michigan's Anton Arzhankin has advanced to the Quarterfinals of the ITA Conference Masters Singles Tournament and the doubles pair of Brogan Pierce and Jack Davison advanced to the Round of 16 in the doubles tournament on Thursday.
Arzhankin earned a bye to the Round of 16 and was scheduled to play the winner of Mercer's Nemanja Stefanovic and Texas A&M Corpus Christi's Nathan Favier. Stefanovic defeated Favier 6-2, 6-3, to advance to take on Arzhankin. WMU's No. 1 dispatched Stefanovic in two sets, 6-4, 6-1, to advance to Friday's quarterfinals. Arzhankin will play against Northern Arizona's Daniel Torres on Friday morning at 9 a.m.
Pierce and Davison drew Drake's Benjamin Johnson and Christian Winstead. The tournament format for doubles is a best of three sets. The Broncos' duo took the opening set 6-3 and then finished off the Bulldogs' pair 6-4 to advance to Friday's Round of 16. The will take on UNC Wilmington's Joseph Wayand and Alex Degabriele at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
