Women's Soccer Lands Six on CSC Academic All-District Team

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan women's soccer was represented by six student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, which was released this afternoon. The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. 

Jen Blitchok, Madi Canada, Brielle Gomez, Jaden Peck, Heidi Thomasma and Abby Werthman were the Bronco honorees this season. This marks the second consecutive season with six CSC All-District honorees for the program. Blitchok, Canada, Thomasma and Werthman have advanced to the Academic All-American ballot, which will be released on Dec. 11. 

Blitchok carries a 4.0 in graduate school and is one of the best players in the nation. She entered the NCAA Tournament as the nation's leader in points, finishing her season with 47 points on 18 goals and 11 assists. The Grandville, Mich. native was a CSC Second Team Academic All-American last season. She was also the MAC Offensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-MAC selection this season. 

Canada holds a 3.62 GPA in finance and was a strong contributor for the Broncos this season. She concluded the season with eight points on one goal and six assists. She was a First Team All-MAC honoree and started 20 games for the Brown and Gold this season. 

Gomez is a 4.0 student as well, helping lead the team to one of the best defensive seasons in program history. The veteran defender helped limit opponents to 17 goals this season, while also playing a big role in 11 clean sheets. She was a MAC All-Tournament Team honoree. 

Peck has a 3.90 GPA in marketing and turned into a great goal scorer for the Broncos late in the season. She finished the 2024 campaign with eight points on three goals and two assists. Two of those goals came in the MAC Tournament, leading to her being named to the All-MAC Tournament Team. 

Thomasma boasts a 3.92 GPA in biomedical sciences and was WMU's top defender this season. She was a finalist for the MAC's Defensive Player of the Year award and earned First Team All-MAC honors. The Broncos produced 11 clean sheets and allowed just 17 goals all season. 

Werthman has a 3.80 GPA in Physical and Health Education Teacher Ed K-12 and was one of WMU's top players throughout the season. She was named the MAC Tournament MVP after producing 10 points in two games, including a MAC record eight points in the championship match. Along with that, she earned All-MAC Second Team honors. 

As a team, the Broncos finished the season with a 13-2-6 overall record and 8-0-3 MAC mark. WMU made its fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament and won the MAC regular season and tournament titles.
