KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team wrapped up its Fall Season on Sunday after hosting three days of the Betsy Kuhle Challenge at West Hills Athletic Club.
Each day featured a round of doubles and a round of singles, with Holy Cross College, Butler and UIC competing alongside the Broncos.
FRIDAY
The Broncos opened up on Friday with three wins in doubles play against HCC. Audrey Smitek and Lola Glantz defeated the Saints' Savvides and Gonzales, 6-1. Sienna Osborne and Frida Weijerman earned a 6-2 victory over Rocha and Martinez, while Julia Frazier and Polina Khotko also earned a win, 6-0, over Geoffreys and Vanderhyde.
WMU was pitted against Butler in the singles portion in the afternoon. Glantz earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Balthazor. Weijerman picked up a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Arington, while Smitek won 6-2, 6-2 over Cook for the team's third and final singles win on the day.
SATURDAY
WMU opened Saturday in similar fashion, rattling off two doubles wins, this time over UIC. Glantz and Smitek won 6-2 over Cooper and Liu. Weijerman and Osborne ear ned a 6-2 win over Rodriguez Gregoris and Belberka.
In singles play, the Broncos took on Holy Cross College, winning all five matches they played. Glantz picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Savvides. Weijerman defeated Geoffreys 6-2, 6-3, with Osborne earning a 6-1, 6-4 win over Rocha. Smitek won her first set over Martinez, 6-0, with Martinez retiring before the start of the second set. Frazier picked up WMU's final win on the day, 6-0, 6-0 over Woelfer.
SUNDAY
The Broncos battled Butler in doubles, winning two of the three matches. Osborne and Khotko defeated Schildcrout and Cook 7-6 (7-2). WMU's other win also came via a tiebreaker, with Frazier and Weijerman defeating Beavin and Balthazor 7-6 (7-2).
In singles, WMU took on UIC and won four of the five matches. Glantz defeated Halbersztadt 6-3, 7-5, Osborne picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Liu, Smitek earned a 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8-6) victory over Cooper and Frazier won 6-3, 6-4 against Rodriguez Gregoris.
