BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The #14 Western Michigan men's soccer team will travel to Missouri Valley Conference foe Bowling Green on Friday, November 1. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 PM and the game will be streamed on YouTube.
Last Time Out / WMU's Unbeaten Streak
The Brown and Gold tied MVC foe Bradley at WMU Soccer Complex last Saturday 0-0 to extend their record-breaking unbeaten streak to a 37th consecutive game without a loss. The tie would mark WMU's fifth shutout of the season and second shutout in their last three games. As of Wednesday evening, The Brown and Gold are one of two teams in the entire NCAA to rank inside the top 10 in team scoring offense and team goals against average.
Owen Smith's Dominance
Graduate student midfielder Owen Smith remains the NCAA's assist king with 13 assists and counting on the season. Smith is tied with Jonathan Robinson (2023) and Giuliano Teixeira (2003) for the most assists produced by a Bronco in a single season.
Scouting The Falcons
Bowling Green is led by Trace Terry and Bennett Painter, who pace the Falcons with 10 goals each. In the assist department, Alberto Anaya leads BGSU with nine assists, while Andrew Shaffer follows with seven assists. BGSU enters the contest on a two-game losing streak (9-4-2 record) after close away losses to #15 Missouri State (1-2) and Evansville (0-1).
Series History
The Brown and Gold trail the overall series 23-8-6 overall. However, since 2015, The Brown and Gold have dominated the series, boasting eight wins and three ties against the Falcons. Currently, WMU enters the match with a three-game win streak over BGSU and is looking for a fourth straight victory over the Falcons: The Brown and Gold have not captured at least four consecutive wins over BGSU since the 2008-2011 seasons, where they won a total of five straight games over their foes from Ohio.
