Tim Washe Named Captain for 2024-25 Season

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey program and head coach Pat Ferschweiler have announced Tim Washe as the team's captain for the 2024-25 season. Alongside Washe, Alex Bump, Matteo Costantini and Cam Knuble will serve as assistant captains.

"It's a tremendous honor, first and foremost," Washe said. "I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity and very excited about the team we have this year! We all can't wait to get going!"

Washe is in his fifth year with the program and served as an assistant captain during the 2023-24 campaign. The Clarkston, Mich. native has played in 129 career games for the Brown and Gold. In those games, he has produced 36 points on 12 goals and 24 assists.

Along with his point production, Washe has been one of the best in the nation at winning faceoffs. He has led the NCHC in faceoff winning percentage each of the last two seasons, including a career high 61.4 percent mark in 2022-23.

Bump is entering his second season in Kalamazoo and is coming off of a breakout rookie year. He finished the season with 36 points on 14 goals and 22 assists. His 14 goals were the most by a freshman in program history since Mark Letestu in 2006-07. The Philadelphia Flyers draft pick is the team's active leading goal scorer and is tied for the lead in points with Washe.

Costantini transferred to Western Michigan prior to last season and broke out in a big way. During the 2023-24 season, he produced career highs in points (31), goals (11), assists (20) and plus/minus (+20). Additionally, he scored in the 2024 NCAA Tournament against Michigan State.

Knuble is beginning his fifth year with the Broncos, playing in 72 career games. The Grand Rapids, Mich. native has two goals and one assist in his career. In 2023-24, he produced a career-high seven blocks, splitting time between forward and defenseman. The versatile Michigander has also won 47 faceoffs in his career.

WMU will open its season on Oct. 5 with an exhibition against the USNTDP at Lawson Arena. The regular-season opener is set for Oct. 11 at home against Ferris State.
