Anton Arzhankin Named MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Western Michigan men's tennis senior Anton Arzhankin has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week after winning the singles title at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic over the Weekend.

Arzhankin's route to the championship began on Friday, when he opened up the weekend with a 6-1, 6-2 win over UND's Kyran Migimay to advance to the Round of 16. The Moscow, Russia, native advanced to the quarterfinals later that day after a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ohio State's Brandon Carpico. On Saturday, Arzhankin bested Wisconsin's Matthew Fullerton 6-2, 6-1 to move on to the semifinals, where he defeated Northwestern's Saiprakash Goli 6-2, 6-4.

Arzhankin then defeated Notre Dame's Chase Thompson 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-1 to clinch the title. Thompson was the lone competitor to take a set off of Arzhankin all weekend. He was also awarded with the Milwaukee Tennis Classic Sportsmanship Award.

Arzhankin has a 3.84 GPA in computer science.
