KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's basketball team continues MAC (Mid-American Conference) play against Reagan Bass and Akron University tomorrow at 7:00 PM at University Arena. The Broncos will look to match a season best third straight game with a victory Wednesday against the Zips. Tomorrow's game will be streamed on ESPN+.
In their last matchup, the Brown and Gold captured a come from behind victory over University at Buffalo to win their second consecutive game. In the win, Kaitlyn Zarycki and
Hannah Spitzley led the Broncos offensively by combining for 30 points after shooting a joint 61.1% from the field and 50% from behind the three point line. Zarycki scored 17 points or more for the ninth time this season, while Spitzley set a season high with her third straight double-digit outing in the scoring department.
As for Akron's Bass, she is in the midst of a dominant campaign and is one of four players in NCAA Division I women's basketball to average 18.8 points and 11.0 rebounds per game and enters Wednesday's action recording 18.8 points and 11.3 rebounds per outing. She has posted a double-double in four of Akron's six league games this season and has 10 doubles-doubles on the year which ranks 15th nationally.
Akron and Western Michigan will meet for the 50th time in program history Wednesday, with the Broncos leading the series, 36-13. A year ago, Western Michigan bested the Zips, 76-71, on Feb. 4, 2023 in Kalamazoo. During the Broncos victory, then junior Spitzley scored 25 points on an efficient 11-19 shooting performance from the field.
After the conclusion of the game, the Broncos will undergo a three game road trip starting with a contest in Mount Pleasant, Michigan against Central Michigan on Saturday, January 27, at 1:00 PM.
